Did Jesus experience human emotions? What does resurrection mean?
Martha and Mary were sisters of Lazarus from Bethany (see image above). Mary, actually, had previously anointed Jesus with oil. Lazarus was very ill, and the sisters came to Jesus to let Him know. Jesus, in turn, told them that this illness will not end in death, so that the "Son of God may be glorified through it" (Chapter 11:4). After waiting two days, Jesus says He wants to travel back to Judea--a play that, a few chapters ago he was almost arrested and stoned.
He tells his disciples that the reason is to see Lazarus... He has died. The apostle Thomas suggests that the disciples should go with Him. When Jesus gets there, he sees that Lazarus has been in the tomb for 4 days.
Once Jesus arrives, Martha argues that had Jesus been there, Lazarus would not have died; She trusts, however, that whatever Jesus asks of God, God will surely give him. Jesus declares another I AM statement: I am the resurrection and the life.
